Invasion Drama

On Friday, Sept. 16, 2022, Rifugio Digitale opens a photography exhibition by Roberto Di Caro entitled Invasion Drama, which can be visited until Sept. 30, 2022. The exhibition curated by Laura Andreini in collaboration with Forma Edizioni, aims to offer a retrospective on the war in Afghanistan and Iraq from 2001 to 2009 through a personal narrative in images, writings, artifacts and music from the front with two texts by Franco Farinelli, distinguished geographer, and Uliano Lucas, dean of Italian reportage photography. The exhibition will compare the two realities – Afghanistan and Iraq – which will dialogue on the basis of different themes. Nomadism, war, cities, archaeology, are just some of the issues that will be discussed and that will highlight, the diversity and contradictions of these peoples. The images taken by Roberto Di Caro himself stage the despair, anger, and resignation that a traumatic event such as war imposes on those who suffer it, but also the tale of everyday life, of life that goes on, in spite of everything. The dramatic tale, but also one of future hope, takes on a unique suggestion within our exhibition space that was created as a place of shelter from the bombs during World War II.

The opening of the exhibition will be held starting at 6,30 p.m. at Rifugio Digitale in Via della Fornace 41, Florence.

During the course of the opening, it will be possible to purchase and order photographs printed and autographed by the author with the following technical specifications:

L’Abitare Contemporaneo: riflessioni e indicazioni sullo stato delle cose

On Thursday, September 8, 2022, on the final day of the exhibition “Lonely Living, the architecture of primary space”, Rifugio Digitale will host an event entitled “L’Abitare Contemporaneo: Riflessioni e indicazioni sullo stato delle cose” at the Niccolini Theater in Florence. It will be a collective meeting during which the eighteen architecture firms featured in the exhibition will engage with as many architecture firms to explore in multiple voices how much the research under consideration is still relevant and how the issues addressed have evolved over the years. The event will unfold as a kind of theatrical piece, each studio will be entrusted with the task of narrating from a stage in the theater its personal point of view on the evening’s theme in front of a large audience positioned in the stalls and the gallery, with speeches punctuated by maestro Giancarlo Cauteruccio, one of the protagonists of Italian Avant-Garde Theater, who is entrusted with the prestigious direction. The event will be held starting at 4 p.m. in Via Ricasoli 3, home of Teatro Niccolini, one of the oldest theaters in Florence.

Seats will be assigned until maximum capacity is reached beyond which it will not be possible to enter the theater.

Opening – Lonely Living. L’architettura dello spazio primario

From Friday 1 July 2022 Rifugio Digitale will host “Lonely Living. L’architettura dello spazio primario”, an exhibition that was held during the VIII Venice Architecture Bienniale in 2002 and that twenty years later will be present again in Florence at Rifugio Digitale. The choral exhibition organised in collaboration with Forma Edizioni will be open for all summer until Thursday 8 September 2022 and will feature eighteen Italian architecture studios as protagonists. Archea Associati, Bruno Fioretti Marquez, C+S Associati, Alberto Cecchetto, Alfonso Cendron, 5+1 Architetti Associati, Studio Davide Cristofani & Gabriele Lelli, Nicola Di Battista, Elio Di Franco, Vincenzo Melluso, Netti Architetti, Pietro Carlo Pellegrini, Renato Rizzi, Italo Rota, Beniamino Servino, Studio Associato Seste, Tscholl Werner Architekt and Cino Zucchi are the eighteen studios that in 2002 on the occasion of the 8th Venice Architecture Biennale were asked to relate to the theme of minimal living and were asked to design on a scale of 1: 1 a space of about 16 square metres built entirely of chipboard panels. The eighteen ideas were arranged inside an area defined by a steel platform placed in the gardens of the Biennale. It was a sort of ideal city whose masterplan had been designed by Ipostudio architetti. The original program posed two existential questions relative to the metropolitan life that we experience every day: on the one hand, the problem of the emergency and the temporary shelter of those who, lacking any kind of housing, are in search of a minimum of shelter; and on the other, the problem of the psychological isolation and solitude into which the enormous numbers of the society in which we live often force us. Eighteen proposals of buildings for minimal living conceived by some of the major protagonists of contemporary Italian architecture will be put on show this time in digital format.

The opening of the exhibition will be held on Friday 1 July at 6.30 p.m. at our spaces in Via della Fornace 41.
